Great Children and Youth Drawing Contest of the 12th 
Festival of the Oceans 2024

Delphinus invites you to reflect and express yourself to take care 
of the oceans and all forms of life that inhabit them!
Get inspired and participate!

Bases: 

a) The drawings must express the relationship and impact of human beings on our ocean. The drawings must express at least ONE of the following FIVE themes: climate change, overfishing, plastic pollution, invasive species or vaquita conservation. The drawing must show both the problem and solutions.

b) Drawings can be submitted physically or via email. Drawings submitted physically must be double letter sized (27.9 cm × 43 cm), drawings sent by email must have a size of 5100 x 3300 pixels, drawings that do not match these criteria will not be considered for the contest. All techniques and materials will be accepted, excluding digital drawings.

c)  When sending the drawing, the following information must be included, either on the back of the drawing if submitted physically or in the body of the email:

  1. Title of the drawing

  2. Full name of the author, age, and city of residence.

  3. Author's school name and grade level.

  4. Name of a parent or responsible adult.

  5. Telephone and email

1 Categories

There will be three main categories: (1) contestants from Quintana Roo, (2) contestants from the rest of Mexico, and (3) international contestants.

1.1Quintana Roo Category

All children and teens enrolled in any primary, secondary, or high school, whether public or private, in the state of Quintana Roo can participate. Because the jury of this contest is independent of Delphinus, the children of Delphinus collaborators may also participate.

1.1.1 There will be 4 subcategories in this category

i   Lower Primary school (1st, 2nd and 3rd grade),

ii  Higher Primary school (4th, 5th and 6th grade),

iii Secondary school (7th to 9th grade),

iv High school (10th to 12th grade)

All children and teens enrolled in any primary, secondary, or high school, whether public or private, in Mexico can participate, with the exception of those who live in the state of Quintana Roo.

1.2.1 There will be 4 subcategories in this category

i   Lower Primary school (1st, 2nd and 3rd grade),

ii  Upper Primary school (4th, 5th and 6th grade),

iii Secondary school (7th to 9th grade),

iv  High school (10th to 12th grade)

1.2 National Category

1.3 International Category

All children and teens between 6 and 18 years old who live outside of Mexico can participate.

1.3.1 There will be 4 subcategories in this category 

i.    6-9 years old
ii.    10-12 years old
iii.    13-15 years old
iv.    16-18 years old

2 Prizes

2.1 Quintana Roo Category

The top three places in each subcategory will be awarded:

2.1.1 First place: A bicycle, a PRIMAX dolphin interaction for four people and four tickets to one of the Xcaret Experiences parks.

2.1.2 Second place: A PRIMAX interaction with dolphins for two people at the Cancun Interactive Aquarium, Delphinus Puerto Morelos or Delphinus Riviera Maya and two tickets to one of the Xcaret Experiences parks.

2.1.3 Third place: A RIDE interaction with dolphins for two people at Delphinus Riviera Maya or the Cancun Interactive Aquarium.

The dolphin interaction certificates at Delphinus and the tickets to the Xcaret Experiences parks are subject date and availability restrictions.

2.2 National Category

The top three places in each subcategory will be awarded:

2.2.1 A package of Delphinus merchandise, a commemorative medal and a participation certificate that will be sent via courier service.

2.3 International Category

The top three places in each subcategory will be awarded:

2.3.1. A package of Delphinus merchandise, a commemorative medal and a participation certificate that will be sent via courier service.

2.4 Additionally

There will be two national winners (one primary school winner and one middle/high school winner) and two international winners (one 6-12 year old winner and one 13-18 year old winner) selected for the following prizes:

2.4.1. National winners: A trip for two people to Cancun (the winner and an adult, either a parent or a legal guardian). Includes 2 round-trip plane tickets, arriving on Monday, June 10, 2024, and returning on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from Mexico City, Guadalajara, or Monterrey, as convenient to the winner, 3 nights in an all-inclusive hotel, a double PRIMAX interaction with dolphins at one of the Delphinus habitats, and local transportation in Cancun (airport, award ceremony, hotel and interaction with dolphins, if necessary).

2.4.2. International winners: A trip for two people to Cancun (the winner and an adult, either a parent or a legal guardian) Includes 2 round-trip plane tickets, for up to 600 US dollars per person, arriving on Monday, June 10, 2024, and returning on Thursday, June 13, 2024 (Cancun local time GMT-5), from a location chosen at the winner's convenience, 3 nights in an all-inclusive hotel, a double PRIMAX  interaction with dolphins at one of the Delphinus habitats, and local transportation in Cancun (airport, award ceremony, hotel and interaction with dolphins, if necessary).

2.5. The winners of all categories will be announced on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the opening event of the exhibition of the 12th Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean, the 4 winners of the trip to Cancun will be informed in advance so that they can be present at the event.

2.6. Prizes cannot be exchanged for valuables, cash or other activities. In the event that the creditors of the trip to Cancun cannot travel on the stipulated dates, the prize will be lost without liability for the organizers.

3 Reception of drawings:

3.1 The drawings can be sent digitally to the email concursos@festivaldelosoceanos.org.mx, they must be scanned or photographed and must have a resolution of at least a 300 dpi and a minimum size of 5100 x 3300 pixels, the body of the email must include all of the information previously mentioned in section “c” of the bases.

3.2 Drawings can also be sent via post or physically delivered to Av. Nader Mz 1, Lt 28, SM 2, Downtown Cancún, Postal Code: 77500, Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Drawings will be received from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The drawings mailed or physically delivered to this location must contain the information previously mentioned in section “c” of the bases on the back of the drawing.

3.3  All works will be received from the date of publication of this call for entries and until Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. (GMT-5), drawings received after this date will not be considered for the contest.

4 Jury and participation:

4.1 The jury will be made up of artists, environmental educators, and media personalities from Cancún, Quintana Roo. Delphinus staff does not intervene in the definition of the winners. The jury’s ruling will be final.

4.2 This is a contest in good faith, for all controversies and aspects that are not expressly declared in these bases, Delphinus reserves the right to, through its executives, make the necessary decisions to resolve any situation.

4.3 The sole participation in this call is a tacit acceptance of the rules of this contest. The parents or legal guardians of the participating children accept that Delphinus (Operadora Xuna SA de CV) or affiliated companies can use the drawings for publication, printing for or without profit, as well as transmission and retransmission by any known or unknown media, and that none of these uses will imply financial or other compensation, present or future.
