Great Children's Drawing Contest
Festival of the Oceans 2023

Delphinus invites you to reflect and express yourself to take care 
of the oceans and all forms of life that inhabit them!
Get inspired and participate!

Bases: 

a) The central theme of the drawings is to explain the relationship and impact of humanity with our oceans. The works must express ONE of the following FIVE themes: climate change, overfishing, plastic pollution, invasive species or conservation of the vaquita porpoise. The drawing should show both the problem and solutions.

b) The drawings can be delivered physically or sent as a photo attachment by email. The drawings must have a double letter size (27.9 cm × 43 cm). Drawings sent by email must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi and a size of 5100 x 3300 pixels, drawings that do not fit these specifications will not be considered for the contest. All techniques and materials will be accepted with the exception of digital drawings.

c) When sending the drawing, the following information must be included, either on the back of the drawings that will be delivered physically or in the body of the email:

  1. Title of the piece

  2. Author’s full name, age and city of residence

  3. Name of school and grade that the author is attending

  4. Name of author’s parent(s) or legal guardian

  5. Contact email or telephone

1 Categories

There will be three main categories: (1) contestants from Quintana Roo, (2) contestants from the rest of the Mexico and (3) international contestants.

1.1Quintana Roo Category

All children and teenagers enrolled in any primary, secondary, high school or high school, whether public or private education in the state of Quintana Roo can participate. Due to the fact that the jury of this contest is independent from Delphinus, the children of Delphinus collaborators will also be able to participate.

1.1.1 There will be 4 subcategories in this category

i   Lower Primary (1st, 2nd and 3rd grade)

ii  Higher Primary (4th, 5th and 6th grade)

iii Middleschool

iv Highschool

All children and teenagers enrolled in any primary, secondary, high school or high school, whether public or private education, in the Mexican Republic can participate, with the exception of those who live in the state of Quintana Roo.

1.2.1 There will be 4 subcategories in this category

i   Lower Primary (1st, 2nd and 3rd grade)

ii  Higher Primary (4th, 5th and 6th grade)

iii Middleschool

iv Highschool

1.2 National Category

1.3 International Category

All children and teenagers between 6 and 18 years old living outside of Mexico can participate.

1.3.1 There will be 4 subcategories in this category 

i.    6-9 years old
ii.    10-12 years old
iii.    13-15 years old
iv.    16-18 years old

2 Prizes

2.1 Quintana Roo Category

The first three places in each subcategory will be awarded:

2.1.1 First place: A bicycle, four PRIMAX dolphin interactions and four tickets to one of the Experiencias Xcaret parks.

2.1.2 Second Place: An RIMAX dolphin interaction for two people at the Cancun Interactive Aquarium, Delphinus Puerto Morelos or Delphinus Riviera Maya and a double entry to one of the Experiencias Xcaret parks.

2.1.3 Third place: RIDE dolphin interactions for two people at Delphinus Riviera Maya or Acuario Interactivo Cancún.

The certificates of interaction with dolphins at Delphinus and tickets to the Experiencias Xcaret park that are delivered will include date and availability restrictions.

2.2 National Category

There will be 3 winners for each subcategory, additionally two national winners will be chosen, one primary winner and one middle/high school winner.

2.2.1 National winners: Trip for two people to Cancun (winner and an adult, either father, mother or guardian). Includes 2 round-trip plane tickets, departing on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 and returning on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from Mexico City, Guadalajara, or Monterrey, as appropriate to the winner, 3 hotel nights, a double interaction with PRIMAX dolphins in some Delphinus habitat and local transportation in Cancun (airport, award ceremony, hotel and interaction with dolphins, if necessary)..

2.2.2 First, second and third place in each subcategory. A Delphinus merchandise package, a commemorative medal and a participation certificate that will be sent via courier.

2.3 International Category

There will be 3 winners for each subcategory, additionally two international winners will be chosen, a winner for 6-12 years and a winner for 13-18 years.

2.3.1. International winners: Trip for two people to Cancun (the winner and an adult, either father, mother or guardian) Includes 2 round-trip plane tickets, for up to 600 US dollars per person, departing on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 and returning on Saturday, June 3, 2023 (Cancun local time GMT-5), from a site at the winner's convenience, 3 hotel nights, a double interaction with PRIMAX dolphins in a Delphinus habitat and local transportation in Cancun (airport, award ceremony, hotel and interaction with dolphins, if necessary).

2.3.2. First, second and third place in each subcategory. A Delphinus merchandise package, a commemorative medal and a participation certificate that will be sent via courier.

2.4 The winners of all categories will be announced on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the opening event of the 11th Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean, the 4 winners who will travel to Cancun will be previously informed so that they can be present at the event.

2.5 Prizes are not exchangeable for other prizes, cash or other activities.

3 Submission of entries

3.1 Entries can be submitted via email at rrpp@festivaldelosoceanos.org.mx, they must be scanned or photographed, the image must have at least 300 dpi resolution and a minimum size of 5100 x 3300 pixels, in the body of the email they must be placed the data previously mentioned in section "c" of the bases.

3.2 Submissions may also be sent or delivered physically at Av. Nader Mz 1, Lt 28, SM 2, downtown Cancun, Zip 77500, Cancun, Quintana Roo Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The drawings sent or physically delivered at this location must contain the data previously mentioned in section "c" of the bases on the back.

3.3  All submissions will be received from the date of publication of this call, the physical drawings referred to in section 3.2 will be received until Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. (GMT-5) , while the drawings sent by email referred to in section 3.1 will be received until Sunday, May 7, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (GMT-5), any submissions received after these dates will not be considered for the contest.

4 Jury and participation:

4.1 The jury will be made up of artists, environmental educators and media personalities from Cancun, Quintana Roo. Delphinus staff does not intervene in the definition of the winners. His ruling will be final.

4.2 This is a contest in good faith, for all controversies and aspects that are not expressly declared in these bases, Delphinus, through its executives, reserves the right to make the necessary decisions to resolve any situation.

4.3 Participation in this call is a tacit acceptance of the bases of this contest. The parents or guardians of the participating children accept that Delphinus (Operadora Xuná SA de CV) and affiliated companies use the drawings for publication, printing with or without profit, as well as transmission and retransmission by any means of communication known or to be known and that none of these uses will imply financial or other remuneration, present or future.
