​ Scientific poster contest of the 2nd Forum for the Ocean from the Mexican Caribbean

 

Delphinus invites national and international students, professors and researchers, as well as the general public, to the 2nd Forum for the Ocean from the Mexican Caribbean, within the framework of the activities of the 12th Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean. Which will take place at the facilities of the Tec Milenio University on September 25 and 26, 2024. The Forum will be made up of five keynote conferences, five cycles of presentations, five round tables and a poster contest.

Poster submission

 

1.      Participants:

1.1.   This call is open to students and professionals from university institutions, research centers and non-governmental organizations. 

1.2.   Papers may be received with a maximum of 5 co-authors. In the case of students who submit summaries, they must include the university professor or researcher who advises the project.

1.3.   The work must be an original work and respect the level of contribution of the co-authors.

1.4.   Participants will only be able to participate with one poster as the main author.

2.      Theme:

2.1.   The theme of the event is the “Ocean”, for which works related to this topic will be received, following the thematic lines of the Forum:

 

  • ·         Biodiversity loss,

  • ·         Marine Pollution by Plastics,

  • ·         Sustainable Fishing,

  • ·         Climate Change and

  • ·         Environmental Policy for Ocean Care

 

3.      Reception of summaries

3.1.   The reception of abstracts for the cycle of presentations will take place from the publication of this call and until 11:59 p.m. (GMT-5) on August 25, 2024.

3.2.   The summaries, as well as the requested information, will be received only through the following form: https://forms.gle/xyFb5nCKqJSQWAjy6 selecting the option YES, when you reach the following question “Do you want to submit a presentation or a poster?” and choosing POSTER CONTEST when you get to the question “Choose the modality in which you want to participate”​

3.3.   The maximum length of the body of the abstract will be 600 words, strictly following the format established in the call. The summary must be written in Spanish and captured in a Word file (.docx, .doc or .ods). Summaries must include the following information:

 

·         Introduction/Background/Justification

·         Objective(s)/Hypothesis

·         Methods

·         Results

·         Important graphs and figures

·         Implications/Conclusion

 

3.4.   Important figures and graphs must be delivered within the content of the Word document, properly arranged and separately in JPG or TIFF format files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

3.5.   The name of the summary file must be in the following format:

 

·         Summary: Last name/Surname_First Name.docx (for example Sanchez_Morales_Sandra.docx)

·         Images, graphs and figures: Last Name/Surname_First Name_Figure Number.jpg (for example: Sanchez_Morales_Sandra_2.jpg)

 

3.6.   In the event that the first author is not the person who is going to present the work, register the presenter's information in the form, as well as notify it in the corresponding section.

3.7.   Once the form is completed and submitted, all requested data and files will be reviewed.

3.8.   Once the data is verified, you will receive a confirmation email with your participant number that will be used as an entry pass to the Forum.

3.9.   Incomplete questionnaires and/or damaged files will not be taken into account.

 

4.      Review of summaries

4.1.   The works will be evaluated by a Committee made up of Delphinus staff. Its ruling will be final.

4.2.   The criteria to evaluate the summaries will be:

·         Content.

·         Level of contribution to its field.

·         Originality.

·         Correspondance to thematic lines

 

4.3.   Sending the documents and filling out the form does not in any way obligate the Forum organizers to accept the applicants to be part of the poster contest to be held during the Forum.

4.4.   Delphinus and the 2nd Forum for the Ocean from the Mexican Caribbean reserve the right to disqualify or revoke a prize awarded in the event that the registration of posters that do not comply with the requirements established in this call or in case of conflicts between authors is verified. .

4.5.   Once the summary is sent, the Committee will have until September 15, 2024 to provide a response for participation.

4.6.   If the work is not accepted for the poster contest, you may be given the opportunity to participate in the cycle of presentations, according to the ruling of the Committee.

4.7.   In the event that participants were not selected for the poster contest or have been selected for the cycle of presentations and do not wish to participate in it, they may retain their place as attendees of the event, for which they may use the same participant number. as long as they notify their decision in response to the email sent by the organizers.

 

5.      Posters

5.1.   Posters must be in vertical format with a size of 120 cm high by 90 cm wide.

5.2.   The poster must contain the following contents: title of the research, name of authors, summary, introduction, general and specific objectives, methodology, results, conclusion and references. The order and way of presenting them is free, it is suggested to reduce the text to a minimum and present them in a striking way.

5.3.   The posters must have a header with the following elements:

·         Title of the research.

·         Logo of the academic institution to which they belong and/or logo of the institution where they carried out the research.

·         Name of the authors, in order of contribution.

·         Email of the first author and/or exponent of the poster.

5.4.   Posters must have text and image sizes suitable for viewing from two meters away.

5.5.   The images, figures, tables, graphs and/or sources presented in the scientific poster must be visually understandable for the reader. For this, it is necessary to present images, figures, tables, graphs and/or sources with good resolution.

 

6.      Poster contest

6.1.   The poster contest will take place on September 26, 2024 at the Tec Milenio University from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (GMT -5), during this time exhibitors must be present with their poster to answer questions from the Jury.

6.2.   Participants must deliver their printed posters to the registration table no later than 08:00 a.m. on September 26, 2024.

6.3.   The works will be evaluated by a jury made up of special guests of the Forum. Their ruling will be final.

6.4.   The criteria to evaluate the posters will be:

  • ·         Content and way of presenting information.

  • ·         Level of contribution to its field.

  • ·         Originality of the research.

  • ·         Mastery of the exposition topic.

  • ·         Poster design.

 

7.      Awards:

7.1.   The three posters with the highest scores will be awarded with:

7.1.1.     First place: Double RIDE interaction with dolphins in one of the Delphinus facilities

7.1.2.     Second place: Four tickets to the Interactive Aquarium Cancun

7.1.3.     Third Place: Merchandise Package

7.2.   The winners will be announced on September 26 at 3:00 p.m. (GMT-5) as a preamble to the closing ceremony of the 2nd Forum for the Ocean from the Mexican Caribbean within the framework of the 12th Festival of the Oceans of the Mexican Caribbean, in the Tec Milenio University.

7.3.   Delphinus and the 2nd Forum for the Ocean from the Mexican Caribbean reserve the right to declare the Poster Contest void if there is not enough participation, for which the ruling Committee may provide the opportunity to participate in the cycle of presentations to participants who meet the requirements.

7.4.   This is a contest in good faith, for all controversies and aspects that are not expressly declared in these bases, Delphinus, through its executives, reserves the right to make the necessary decisions to resolve any situation.

7.5.   Prizes are not exchangeable for valuables, cash or other activities.

7.6.   The sole participation in this call is a tacit acceptance of the rules of this contest.
